This position serves as an Electronics Technician in the Central Arkansas Veteran's Healthcare System (CAVHS) Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Section of Engineering Service, with general supervision by the Supervisory Electronics Technician.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include but may not be limited to: Drafts and submits packages for the acquisition of materials and/or utilizing contracts. Review Bids/Proposals received from vendors and makes recommendations to the Contracting Officer on which vendor should be awarded the contract. Creates, updates and reviews technical drawings, including blueprints, wiring diagrams and circuit schematics to ensure greater accuracy and compliance with applicable codes & regulations. Provides technical advice and assistance to other services on equipment application, system replacement, system modification, system upgrade based on the needs of the service. Work Schedule: Fulltime; Monday - Friday; 7:30am - 4:00pm

To apply for this position, you must have the following qualifications: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: I possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-10) in the Federal service, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Electronics Technician, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes: Maintaining a library of drawings of electronic systems and facility infrastructure, (fiber and data signal transmission lines) for reference in planning and maintaining all systems assigned.; Determines whether or not equipment is performing satisfactorily.; Using advanced-writing skills to communicate matters of significant importance.; Managing the operation and maintenance of the facility fire alarm system by monitoring both the computer monitoring system and the fire alarm control panels ensuring the system is operating within code.; Responding to tests and/or repairs fire alarm trouble signals that are displayed on the monitoring system or the fire alarm panel. -OR- SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Only education directly related to the work of Electronics Technician that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the Electronics Technician position is creditable. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of graduate education in excess of 2 years, combined with specialized experience to qualify. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) DRIVER'S LICENSE: This position requires a valid state issued driver's license as incidental driving is required (i.e. to off site facilities). You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Planning and EvaluatingProblem SolvingSystems Engineering IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The incumbent handles objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds routinely and occasionally handles objects of up to fifty (50) pounds. Frequently, work will be performed in cramped and awkward positions. The work also requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. Technical, academic, and mental demands are considerable. The work performed is of a precise nature, requiring prolonged concentration. The incumbent often works under conditions of stress caused by the nature of the work and the necessity to meet deadlines. Incumbent is required to frequently travel to perform work at remote sites. Emergencies at these locations will require immediate response allowing very limited time for notice and preparation.
