The Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) is recruiting for a Cook position. The Cook position will function with in Nutrition and Food Services. The Cook is responsible for providing meals and nutritional care to Veteran patients at the Medical Center.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Serves as Automated Data Processing Application Coordinator (ADPAC)
Clinical Nutrition Informatic Subject Matter Expert for all Clinical Nutrition Computer Software and applications.
Conducts a comprehensive nutrition assessment utilizing the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) for assigned patients.
Develops and implements an individualized plan for Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) in accordance with the patient's medical program goals and objectives.
Performs a Nutrition Focused Physical Exam (NFPE) during assessments to determine risk and/or degree of malnutrition.
Calculates nutrient requirements (calories, protein, carbohydrates, lipids, vitamins, electrolytes and fluids) and necessary diet restrictions or food/drug interactions.
Evaluates patterns and relationships among data obtained and possible root causes for nutrition problems.
Assesses educational needs and provides nutrition education/counseling for individuals and groups, incorporating a learning approach that considers the cultural, religious, educational and medical situation of the patient. Includes information regarding budgeting, menu planning, food purchasing and preparation, food storage and sanitation.
Utilizes motivational interviewing techniques to evaluate patient and/or caregiver's readiness to learn and potential for changing behaviors.
Evaluates achievement of learning objectives by the patient and/or family. Adapts nutrition education materials and counseling techniques to the patient's level of understanding, which frequently involves simplifying complex dietary restrictions.
Maintains accurate record keeping of daily clinical activities and completes patient encounters utilizing the Even Capture System (ECS).
Serves as the nutrition expert for medical staff on the nutritional management of patients.
Work Schedule: 0530 to 1400 / 0600-1000. Days Off Will Rotate

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Is subject to continuous standing, walking, frequent bending, rec and pulling. Lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 lbs unassisted and occasionally moves objects weighing more than 40 lbs. with assistance of a I other workers. Manipulates cumbersome, heavy objects, such as washing stair bowls, pushing heavy carts n casters or operating heavy equipment. Possesses manual dexterity to operate equipment and to handle sharp knives and blades safely Utilizes eye-hand coordination and the ability to concentrate and react quickly to serve food and operate equipment.
