As Imaging Supervisor of the Radiology Department, the incumbent has direct supervisory responsibilities of the CT sections and the administrative and clerical staff within the Radiology Department. Incumbent supports the Chief, Radiology Service, who provides the direct supervision of the position. Incumbent must be professional, cooperative and be able to work with other employees.

Duties

Major Duties: a. Directs the technical services and programs that support this complex tertiary care facility. These services provided are direct and have a significant impact in other multi-mission organizational units' ability to provide critical patient support. The incumbent's ability to identify and implement methods for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of performing these services and the liaison role the incumbent plays affect the overall operational services to the patients, families, and community. b. Plans and coordinates work to be accomplished by sub areas. c. Sets and adjust short-term and long-term priorities and prepares schedules for goals on completion of assigned tasks. d. Assigns work based on priorities, consideration of difficulty and requirements of assignments, and capabilities of employees. e. Evaluates and directs work performance of subordinates. f. Decides on emergent, costly, or controversial training needs and training requests related to employees of Radiology for service chief approval. g. Makes decisions on work Problems Presented by facility supervisors, administrators, facility team leaders, similar personnel, and contractors. h. Supervises the administrative and clerical staff within Radiology. i. Provides advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both clinical and administrative matters. j. Follows established Quality Assurance (QA) guidelines and protocols to ensure integrity, availability, authenticity, and confidentiality of imaging data transmitted by the various modalities. This requires personally previewing imaging coming from modalities prior to storage in the PACS archive. The incumbent assists Radiologists and provides evaluation and reports to upper management regarding the effectiveness of PACS imaging for the veterans.k. Incumbent must be professional, cooperative and be able to work with other employees. Supervisory Incumbents work under the general supervision of the Chief Radiologist or designee in his/her absence. Supervises technologist performing CT/MRI exams under the guidance and direction of the radiologist. Work is evaluated on a spot check basis by the immediate supervisor. Customer Service Relationships with management, co-workers; patients; and the general public Is consistently courteous, respectful, and cooperative in nature. Incumbent will display a cooperative attitude and will effectively work together to implement the organization's mission and goals. Age-specific care, as identified in the Age-Specific Competencies (see Age-Specific Competencies Checklist), including knowledge of changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric age groups; ability to assess and interpret data about the patient's status; and ability to identify age-specific needs and provide the appropriate care based upon the age-related factors noted. Computer Security Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, Federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. [In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist. Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). NOTE: Assignment to the clinical program director requires meeting JRCERT minimum educational standards as noted in the assignment description. Credentialing Standards. Public Law 97-35, the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75, Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and be certified as radiographers in their field. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: GS-12 EXPERIENCE: Do you possess at least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level? Specialized experience includes assuming full administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing the radiologic technology program at a medical center and has significant supervisory responsibility for staff. In addition, do you demonstrate the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): 1. Ability to develop and initiate new imaging services that apply current research findings. 2. Ability to participate as an instructor in the facility's in-service clinical training findings. 3. Ability to interview and evaluate candidates for positions in the section and recommend appointments, advancements, or, when appropriate, disciplinary actions. 4. Ability to evaluate performance, identify continuing education and training needs, etc. 5. *Ability to analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation. 6. Skill in participating in organizational facility initiatives, workgroups, and/or committees. 7. Ability to draft and/or recommend organizational policies and/or directives. References: VA Handbook 5005/119 Part II Appendix G25. The full performance level of this vacancy is 12. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of 12 to 12. Physical Requirements: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
