About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 406th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center at Fort Drum, NY.
This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 13 months position. Please see "Additional Information" section below for further details.
Duties
Perform a variety of duties to assist in movement of unit equipment by air, truck, rail, and sea.
Inspect deploying unit equipment for proper stenciling, vehicle identification, dimensional data, weight and proper secondary loading.
Inspect vehicle loads for hazardous materials to ensure they are properly certified, packed, labeled, compatible and secured.
Operate Weigh-in-Motion Scales, fixed scales and portable scales to weigh vehicles, containers and pallets.
Operate diesel powered forklifts (up to 16,000 lbs.) to load and transport containers and 463L pallets.
Operate Baggage Conveyors (2000 lbs.) to load/unload baggage for commercial aircraft.
Process passengers and equipment for military and civilian aircraft.
Work with unit, load masters, airline representatives and Air Force Contingency Response Element during Joint Inspections for air movements.
Requirements
- Position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with inquiries (NACI).
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Must possess and be able to maintain valid state driver's license.
- Work may involve shift work, weekends, or holidays.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain or possess required forklift, Halvorsen Next Generation Small Loaders (NGSL) and baggage conveyor certifications within 6 months of appointment.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain or possess hazardous material handling, container inspection and air load planner certification within 6 months of appointment.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain or possess Flight Line Drivers certification within 6 months of appointment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Fork Lift Operator (MVO) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common cargo duties. I can load and tie down vehicles, ship containers and pallets, operate a Weigh-in-Motion scale, drive motor vehicles in all types of traffic and road conditions on and off the installation. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Physical effort is used in stooping, bending, reaching, turning when inspecting equipment and weighing vehicles and operating forklifts and motor vehicles. Ability to frequently lift and maneuver items weighing 40 pounds; occasionally handles heavier items.
Working Conditions: Works indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Exposed to equipment noise, heat and fumes and vibration of equipment operated. Exposed to scrapes, cuts, bruises and back injuries; exposed to serious injury from unstable loads falling and traffic accidents.
