The Pharmacist-Clinical Specialist (Neurology) located within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Durham, NC Veterans Affairs Health Care System. This position provides comprehensive medication management services within the Neurology Service, with a focus on migraines, multiple sclerosis, ALS and movement disorders. Care will be delivered through various modalities of care, including, face to face, telehealth, and shared medical appointments.

Duties

Duties including but not limited to: Provides clinical pharmacotherapy and consultative services in neurology service as designated by the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Supervisor, Associate Chief of Pharmacy Service, and the Chief of Pharmacy Service. Provide comprehensive medication management with a focus on by not limited to migraines, multiple sclerosis, ALS and movement disorders. Care will be delivered through multiple modalities of care to meet Veteran, service and assigned area needs, including, face to face, telephone, telehealth (CVT, CCHT, video) visits and shared medical appointments (SMAs) as designated by the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Supervisor, Associate Chief of Pharmacy Service, and the Chief of Pharmacy Service. Provides care in accordance with active scope of practice (SOP). Participates in the coordination and training of pharmacy residents, medical residents, medical fellows and allied healthcare professionals and learners. Serve as preceptor for pharmacy residents. Provides drug information and applies drug information upon request. Meets bookability and direct patient care requirements as set by the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Supervisor, Associate Chief of Pharmacy Service, and the Chief of Pharmacy Service. Adheres to scheduling requirements as set by the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Supervisor, Associate Chief of Pharmacy Service, and the Chief of Pharmacy Service. Contributes to the quality improvement/performance improvement of the Pharmacy Service. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.- English Language Proficiency: Pharmacists appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a. Education: Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. Verification of approved degree programs may be obtained from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, 20 North Clark Street, Suite 2500, Chicago, Illinois 60602-5109; phone: (312) 664-3575, or through their Web site at: http://www.acpe-accredit.org/. (NOTE: Prior to 2005 ACPE accredited both baccalaureate and Doctor of Pharmacy terminal degree program. Today the sole degree is Doctor of Pharmacy.) Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT).May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Pharmacist (Clinical Specialist), GS-13 In addition to the GS-12 requirements, which is Completion of an ACPE-accredited Pharm.D. program or 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, you must have 1 year of experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) which include but not limited to: Knowledge of professional pharmacy practice; Ability to communicate orally and in writing to both patients and health care staff; Knowledge of laws, regulations, and accreditation standards related to the distribution and control of scheduled and non-scheduled drugs and pharmacy security; Skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters. AND In addition to the GS-12 requirements, you must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to be qualified for the GS-13 level. 1. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for their program area. 2. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. 3. Ability to solve problems, coordinate and organize responsibilities to maximize outcomes in their program area or area of clinical expertise. 4. Expert knowledge of a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice or specialty area of pharmacy. 5. Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters. Preferred Experience: (1) At least 3+ years of Clinical Pharmacy Specialist experience (2) Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency or equivalent experience. (3) Completion of a PGY-2 Psychiatry Residency, Ambulatory Care Residency, or Advanced Pain Management Residency or equivalent experience (4) Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification in Psychiatry, Ambulatory Care or Pharmacotherapy (5) Registered Pharmacist or eligible to register in a state that allows pharmacist prescribing of controlled substances **Highly motivated graduating PGY-2s are encouraged to apply**
