Duties

Performs Combat Arms initial, recurring, and remedial marksmanship instruction, qualification training and record fire instruction on all ground weapons training missions assigned to the installation. Conducts weapons modifications, maintenance, repairs and inspections on ground weapons assigned to units supported by the small arms range complex. Conducts Combat Arms armory operations including duties in weapons, ammunition and equipment storage, issue and accountability. Develops lesson plans to be taught by determining appropriate and realistic training objectives and goals.

  • The employee is required to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance as a condition of employment.
  • Employee must successfully complete Air Force Combat Arms Apprentice Course.
  • The employee must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and periodic re-examination as required by the employer.

  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate driver’s license is required for the position.
  • Employee is required to wear all uniforms provided by the employer and must wear and maintain uniform items in accordance with specific standards.
  • The employee is required to carry a firearm. The employee will have resource protection responsibilities that include the use of “deadly force.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 86) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Employee must successfully complete annual/recurring training requirements specified for the position. Courses include Law of Armed Conflict, explosives safety, professional/unprofessional relationships, suicide awareness and others.

Qualifications

CONTITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: This is a drug testing designated position. The employee is subject to random drug testing. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Training Instruction Series 1712 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); Supervising or administering a training program; Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. Teach and provides information on Combat Arms procedures, weapons safety, weapons inspections, Combat Arms weapons scheduling, and ground weapons qualifications requirements. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed at least one full academic year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position; or I have a bachelor's degree in education or a subject area related to the position and am claiming Superior Academic Achievement. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of Combat Arms based and related programs and objectives in order to identify training requirements, skill upgrades and develop training/instruction programs that will assist in meeting ground weapons instructional, training and qualification training needs. 2. Knowledge of Combat Arms regulatory and instructional requirements, weapons and equipment T.O.s, and ammunition accounts to meet minimum maintenance, modification, repair, inspection, storage, and disposal requirements. 3. Ability to meet and maintain the minimum regulatory qualification and safety standards as a Combat Arms specialist/instructor. 4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to include the ability to deal with diverse populations from educationally disadvantaged to college graduates as necessary. 5. Ability to effectively instruct training courses in a classroom, seminar, or open (range) forum. Ability to plan, organize work, and meet deadlines. 6. Skill in the use of automation software and related equipment. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
