A successful candidate in this position will serve as aSupervisory General Engineer/Physical Scientist, leading a team of safety, facilities, operations, and program professionals.

Duties

As a Supervisory General Engineer/Physical Scientist you will: Provide management and leadership for implementation of the operations program at Livermore Field Office (LFO) and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). Serve as the LFO senior manager with direct authority to conduct LFO's safety system oversight, facility representative, environmental, and emergency management operations in support of its overall mission. Serve as the LFO senior manager for operations; efforts include management and oversight of over $2.0 billion management and operating (M&O) contract for the LLNL which could adversely impact the effective function of LFO or achievement of NNSA mission objectives. Supervise a staff of 14 subordinate employees in a variety of security and technical fields in accomplishing the work of the organization. Serve as an Assistant Manager responsible for the oversight for the site-wide operational institutional programs or environmental programs at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). Oversee and supervise professional engineering and scientific work, requiring extensive and significant coordination and integration of several complex and controversial issues and technical support programs and activities.

Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience serving on a team or supporting technical evaluations of contractor operational and implementation, program, or project plans including in an industrial, nuclear or non-nuclear facility; experience making recommendations regarding planning, organizing, and coordinating programs; and experience presenting or briefing in a clear, concise, and logical manner. Examples of Qualified Experience that May Be Qualifying: Served on a team that evaluated operating systems, processes, formality of operations, material flows, waste streams, instruments/alarms, control room practices, maintenance and construction, quality assurance, safety, health, and environmental activities, design, construction, or operational activities. Managed or performed oversight of hazardous facility operations and associated safety management programs. Analyzed organizational performance to identify trends, strengths, and weaknesses. Education

0801 (Engineering) /1301 (Physical Scientist):

To qualify for the 0801 series, you must possess: - A degree in professional engineering. The curriculum must: 1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology as a professional engineering curriculum; or 2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: a) statics, dynamics; b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; d) thermodynamics; e) electrical fields and circuits; f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. -OR- A combination of education and experience- for more information, please refer to the OPM Qualification Standards at Professional Engineering Qualifications (https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0800/all-professional-engineeringpositions-0800/).

To qualify for the 1301 series, you must possess: - A degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics -OR- A combination of education and experience.
