As a Carpentry Worker for the National Park Service, you will assist higher graded employees on a variety of carpentry projects to support the Legacy Restoration Fund. This is a term appointment that will be filled under the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA). The duration of this appointment is not to exceed 13 months, may be extended up to a total of nine years without further competition.

Duties

As a Carpentry Worker, WG-4607-07 with the National Park Service (NPS), your duties will include, but are not limited to: Remodel, construct, repair, and install items such as framework, floor joists, rafters, roof sheathing, sub-flooring, decking, framing, windows, doors, and cabinets. Follow oral instructions and written directions to layout and complete work. Paint and stain wood for installation. Use a wide variety of tools associated with the carpentry trade, such as hand and power saws and planers. Assist higher graded employees on a variety of carpentry projects to support the Legacy Restoration Fund.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-05/24/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. In order to be qualified for this position, you must possess the ability to do the work of the position with no more than normal supervision. You must have constructed, repaired, and installed simple wood, wood substitute, or composite structures, such as partitions, panels, bookcases, workbenches, or other products that consist of basic rectangular shapes and features such as straight in-line or diagonal bracing; and followed specific instructions to complete your work, which is inspected while in progress and upon completion by a supervisor or a journeyperson carpenter. You must provide specific examples in your resume of how you meet the qualification listed above. We will not assume you possess experience simply because you have held a particular job title, series, or grade. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST: 1. Clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, title of position, starting and ending dates of employment (month and year). 2. Must reflect work schedule as full-time and/or part-time and the total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time or part-time). 3. If part-time, (the number of hours worked must be indicated) and will be pro-rated to determine the amount of qualified specialized experience. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. You will not receive credit for experience that does not indicate the exact hours worked per week or is listed as "varies". Please ensure your resume/employment history includes all the information listed above. Failure to adequately provide the information stated above will result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
