You will serve as a Aircraft Electrical Worker in the Fleet Readiness Center Southeast, Industrial Execution Dept, Production Trades Division of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will perform work involved in routine disassembly, repair, modification, assembly, testing, and installation of aircraft electrical systems, equipment, and accessories used on fixed and rotary wing aircraft. You will correct minor discrepancies by removal, repair, or replacement of defective circuits, wires, connectors, control units, and other parts of aircraft electrical systems. You will perform limited functional checks on existing and newly installed aircraft electrical systems, equipment, and cables to check continuity, resistance, amperage, and insulation breakdown with specialized tooling and equipment. You will use common hand and power tools and test equipment to facilitate rework operations.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current soldering certification.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Incumbent's vision must meet near vision correctable at 14" to Jaeger 2, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20. Must be able to distinguish color and shades of color.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • Position is subject to various noise levels. Hearing protection must be worn at all times during working hours in production areas and double protection must be worn for noise levels exceeding 96 DBA.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Using blueprints, schematics, drawings, and technical manuals; Using common hand and power tools and equipment; Utilizing various types of wires, cables, and connectors in aircraft electrical systems; and Applying knowledge of electrical theory, principles, and circuitry. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
