This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Positions are located at Ft Myer with travel to Ft McNair.
Duties
At the full performance level you will: Respond to and investigates emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service.
Exercise search and arrest authority, detain witnesses, apprehend suspects, interview witnesses and other persons involved, determine whether facts warrant apprehension or lesser action.
Collect and preserve evidence. Conduct long and short-term investigations on criminal cases and analyze facts to identify suspects and develop case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspect to trial.
Appear in court to testify as required in Military Court Martials or Federal and State Court proceedings. Provide sworn testimony based on the investigative process, evidence gathered, witness’ statements in criminal and traffic courts.
Perform required lifesaving first aid in the event of an emergency as the first responder to an incident until medical emergency personnel arrive.
Conduct traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer.
Apprehend violators as required by applicable laws or regulations.
Perform protection duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access at fixed installation, internal compound, and incident perimeter posts.
Operate the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with federal and state laws to transcribe data.

- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment Drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

- This position requires the incumbent to operate an Emergency Vehicle when patrolling and must successfully complete the Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course.
- At the GS-07 level: This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete a Police Officer Field Training Program within 6 months upon initial assignment to law enforcement duties and maintain certification thereafter.

Specialized Experience at the GS-06 grade: One year of specialized experience which includes experience 1) Maintaining order and protecting life; (2) Responding to citizens in emergency/non-emergency situations; and (3) Protecting of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Specialized Experience at the GS-07 grade: One year of specialized experience which includes experience (1)Conducting law enforcement traffic patrol;(2)Enforcing traffic codes; and (3) Exercising arrest authority. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS. The work requires extended periods of physical exertion derived from such activities as running, walking, and occasionally lifting, pushing and/or carrying items weighing 50 pounds or more. It requires stamina, physical agility and dexterity and the strength to pursue, apprehend or detain. The incumbent may be required to push or drag heavy weights of 150 pounds or more and defend oneself or others against physical attack.
