Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Exhibit Makers, fabricates scale or full-sized models or mock-ups of equipment, weapons or other devices to be used for training.
Duties
Plans, lays-out, fabricates and assembles parts and components to build training devices from blueprints, rough sketches, detailed or skeletal plans, work specifications or verbal discussions and consultations.
Operates and maintains a metering mix machine, changes mold and adjusts for proper material mixing ratios, trims excess material from de-molded product and paint.
Operates and maintains metal fabrication equipment (metal brake, bandsaw, shears, welders and plasma cutters) and tools.
Operates and maintains woodworking equipment, computerized routing tables and hand tools in the fabrication of training aids and devices with minimal guidance from the TSC Exhibits Maker Supervisor.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Requires standing on hard surfaces for long periods of time. Must Lift moderately and occasionally heavy objects up to 100 pounds.
- Incumbent must successfully complete pre-employment physical examination (physical, emotional, and mental stability, etc.,)
- IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing. Drug Test Required.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a 1- year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights
- Applicant is required to possess a valid drivers license.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Exhibits Maker ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform the most difficult and complex Exhibit Maker duties which include planning, laying out, fabricating and assembling parts and components to build training devices from blueprints, rough sketches, detailed or skeletal plans, and determine appropriate materials for the constructions of training aids and devices. I am skilled in the use of electric-heloarc or oxyacetylene and MIG welder and most types of conventional machines and hand tools such as metal saws, drills, metal lathes, files, riveting machines, etc., to cut, shape and form metal parts and components and join together with screws, bolts, rivets, or by welding. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Requires standing on hard surfaces for long periods of time. Must lift moderately and occasionally heavy objects up to 75 pounds.
Works in lighted and heated shops with concrete floors and with power machinery such as wood saws, metal lathes, or welder. Is subject to health hazards which could result in permanent disability because of cumulative effects of inhaling harmful fumes, glass particles, chemicals, paints, etc., as well as cuts from operation of machinery and burns from ovens or chemical solvents. Wears protective clothing such as aprons, gloves, safety glasses and respirator, fresh air pump, surgical gloves, safety shoes, welding hood, and uses fans to protect against dust, vapors and fumes.
