About the Position: Serves as a senior Health Physicist (Current Operations Modeler) with responsibility for organizing and managing all features of the Army Reactor Program for the US Army Nuclear and Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Agency (USANCA)

Duties

Review proposals of radiation related documents to assure completeness and compliance with all Army, Federal, State and Local regulations. Interpret Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of the Army (DA) regulations, standards and guidance. Identify and develop areas of new Army regulations for nuclear reactor regulations and program management. Provide human survivability modeling support as a member of the nuclear employment augmentation teams. Develop Army visualization products using established nuclear weapon effects modeling software. Analyze accidents to identify causes and recommends corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Health Physicist (CURRENT OPERATIONS MODELER): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education. OR C. Certification: Certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing scientific assessments to identify deficiencies in radiation protection and nuclear safety programs; regulating radioactive materials with an NRC-issued permit, developing new approaches for solving a variety of problems concerning decommissioning projects; conducting analyses in the areas of health physics and radiation effects on personnel and equipment; ensure nuclear safety program complies with all Federal, State and Local regulations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
