Job opening: HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN LEADER

Salary: $34 - 40 per hour
Employment Type: Full-time
You will serve as a High Voltage Electrician Leader in the Production Division, Public Works Department, Naval Support Activity Philadelphia, of Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic.

Duties

You will lead crews in troubleshooting cable systems to locate shorts, electrolysis damage, capacitance imbalance or cable breaks. You will lead a team as a High Voltage Electrician completing high voltage electrical inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities. You will maintain proper work methods, explain steps and or processes to ensure the safety of crew members and safe operations of the equipment. You will Interpret federal, state and local safety requirements and procedures. You will use single line drawing to reroute and distribute power throughout the electrical grid. You will use drawings and load data to develop electrical switching plans and directions.

  • This position may require occasional travel from normal duty station. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
  • This position may be designated Mission Essential. If so, you will be required to ensure organization/facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission by a local or command decision.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Repairing high voltage power generating and distributing equipment (e.g. generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, and control systems); 2) Reading circuit drawings and diagrams to identify electrical problems; 3) Using high voltage test tools (e.g. oscillators, primary and secondary injection tester,, Power Factor and Relay calibration equipment, meggers, phase sticks, and fault finding equipment); 4) Installing transformers, capacitors, insulators, switches, circuit breakers and fuses for main distribution lines over 600V; 5) Using safety equipment such as hot sticks, rubber blankets, and insulated gloves when working on high voltage systems.
