You will serve as a Student Trainee (Financial Management) at the GG-04 or GG-07 grade level receiving on-the-job training and performing basic and routine tasks supporting accounting, auditing, budgeting, or financial management functions.

Duties

You will apply basic financial management procedures, processes, and methods to assist higher graded specialists in preparing budget and estimates to support plans, programs, and activities. You will assist in reviewing and evaluating budget requests and reporting obligations and expenditures. You will assist in compiling financial data or information, maintain records, prepare data for automated financial systems and draft preliminary synopses of audits or financial reports.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You must acknowledge in writing that you are accepting an appointment in the DCIPS (excepted service) which does not confer competitive status, prior to appointment.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • Must be accepted for enrollment or enrolled in school.
  • Students must possess a 2.5 GPA or higher by June 30, 2025.

Qualifications

ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for the GG-04, you must meet the following required education level: Completion of 1 academic year (30 credits) of post-high school study or have an associate's degree. To be eligible for the GG-07, you must meet the following required education level: Completion of 1 academic year of graduate level education, or do you have a bachelor's degree or have completed 5 academic years of pre-professional study. All educational requirements for this position must be met by June 30, 2025. Program Completion and Conversion: Interns may be converted at the discretion of the agency to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-5 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the program. To be eligible for conversion, Interns must: Be a U.S. Citizen Complete at least 160-320 hours of work experience acquired through the Student Internship Program Complete their degree requirements Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted Perform their job successfully

Education

QUALIFYING EDUCATION:

1) A high school whose curriculum has been approved by a State or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum that has been approved by such body or state.

AND

2) Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education:

(i) A 2-year or 4-year college or university
(ii) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school)
(iii) A home-school curriculum

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements, if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
