Duties
The Senior Marine Inspector Training Coordinator serves as the primary unit Training Officer (TO) and as a Senior Marine Inspector (SMI) providing technical expertise and training leadership in the compliance duties of marine safety, vessel inspection, pollution prevention, vessel manning laws, regulations, treaties, and international conventions. This position also provides the unit’s continuity of training and qualification for all marine inspectors attached to the unit.

Qualifications
You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector performing duties such as:
~ Conducting vessel safety regulation training;
~ Developing a personnel training program for a marine investigations program;
~ Developing vessel safety training and qualification programs;
~ Conducting marine inspections on a variety of vessels (e.g., passenger, tank, commercial, tankship, tank barge, chemical ships including foreign vessels, towing and fishing);
~ Identifying hazardous conditions and violations and prescribing corrective measures; and writing analytical report;.
~ Determining compliance with laws, regulations and applicable standards, verifying the certification and existence of proper vessel documentation and safe and proper operating order of systems (navigation, communication, alarm, lifesaving, firefighting, and pollution prevention systems) and machinery and the soundness and acceptable parameters of vessel structures and hulls.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Selectee(s) for this position who are newly appointed to a permanent or term position may be eligible for student loan repayment up to $10,000 (pre-tax) for one calendar year. More than one loan may be repaid if the combined repayments do not exceed $10,000. Receipt of this incentive will require a three year service agreement.
