Duties
SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to provide appropriate, specialized developmental care and instruction for children in the Child Development Centers. In addition, this position performs basic oversight and guidance for a designated classroom.
DUTIES:
Provides developmentally appropriate care and education for children.
Provides care that is in compliance with Child Development guidelines.
Creates a pleasant, inviting atmosphere for children and encourages parent involvement.
Provides guidance to lower-level caregivers assigned to designated classroom.

- IAW Public Law 101-647 Section 231, a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check will be completed on any person selected for this position.
- Must complete training requirements to include infant/child CPR, first aid, food handlers, and various child development training modules. Training may be conducted on evening and weekend hours.
- May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty.
- Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position.
- May act as building supervisor in the absence of the Center Director.
- This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, GS-1702 series.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes practical knowledge of standard child development/care-giving procedures, requiring extended training, to perform a wide variety of duties in a child development environment, carry out plans and activities to enhance the development of children, and deal with a wide range of problems common to this type of environment.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of four (4) years of education above the high school level obtained in a field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of child development regulations, procedures, processes and practices.
Knowledge of health. safety, and sanitation regulations and procedures for working with young children.
Ability to develop creative and innovative activity plans and special program plans and manage a classroom of young children.
Ability to carry out plans and activities to enhance the development of children and adjust work operations due to changes in program or plans.
Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing using tact and courtesy.
Skill to lead others in work assignments.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
