About the Position: This is an Administrative Support Assistant (OA) position with the Galveston District, Engineering & Construction Division, located in Galveston, TX. **See Addition Information Section regarding this more information on this Term NTE 13 months.**

Duties

Support activities of employees at the office utilizing a variety of office automation software and hardware. Provide authoritative explanations of requirements, regulations, and procedures to resolve operating problems or disagreements affecting assigned areas and provides administrative support to the office. Responsible for office property book records. Maintains a perpetual inventory of general office use supplies. Serve as the central contact for all personnel actions and issues affecting the office. Provides administrative support for the office, coordinating clerical and day-to-day administrative support activities that are typically required to accomplish the work of the organization.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to have 40 words per minute typing speed.

NOTE: Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. GS-05 Qualifications Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes, Screening inquiries relative to the office, AND Assisting with the development of the operating budget for the office, AND Utilizing a computer system for administrative operating functions such as drafting correspondence and record keeping. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service of GS-04. OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
