The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as Mission Support Group (MSG) in a MSG with than 1500 funded authorizations. With the commander, the incumbent oversees the complex, numerous, and varied day-to-day support activities that the MSG provides installation-wide.
Duties
As deputy to the commander, plans, organizes, and oversees the day-to-day support activities that the MSG provides to the installation.
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
Represents the MSG with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
Participates in special projects and initiatives and performs special assignments to include long-term planning, functional/technical advice and guidance, and continuity of management.

- This is a formal Civilian Strategic Leader Program (CSLP) position, assignment duration is limited to 36 months
- Mobility is a condition of employment the employee must sign an Air Force-wide mobility agreement

- May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in performance of official duties
- Be currently assigned to a permanent position for at least 12 consecutive months. (cont.)

- Candidates must have at least 12 months of supervisory experience and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution
- Candidates must not have previously held a CSLP leadership position of the same type at the GS-14 or 15, or equivalents, grade levels
- This is a CENTRALLY MANGAGED position
- This is a supervisory position. A one (1) year supervisory probationary period is required if applicant selected has not previously met this requirement.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-13, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include: (1) establishing or revising policies, procedures, objectives, and organizational design to eliminate work problems or barriers to mission accomplishment; (2) exercising decision making authority on behalf of senior leadership in working groups, boards and/or councils; (3) evaluating facts and performing research to develop courses of action to resolve complex and unique issues impacting the organization; (4) directing the work efforts of others to accomplish organizational objectives.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-13 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of operational and managerial functions and mission of subordinate Mission Support Group activities and activities and of a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative methods for assessment and improvement of agency, MAJCOM, and installation level plans and programs .
Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
Skill and ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors..
Skill and ability to analyze, plan, coordinate, and adjust work operations of multiple organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
