Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center is a campus-style facility consisting of 125 acres with 25 major buildings. The incumbent serves as Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor within the Maintenance & Utilities Section/Maintenance and Operations Division of Engineering Service performing a wide variety of maintenance tasks throughout the hospital to carry out the mission of Engineering Service.

Duties

Duties include but not limited to: Ability to provide guidance and direction, supervise, plans, organizes, coordinates, directs and assigns work activities to subordinates. Ability to develop work standards, methods, and procedure using established national codes, trade work practices, and VA standards as guidelines. Ability to assign and assist staff with installation, troubleshooting and maintenance repairs, and preventive maintenance. Ability to assist staff with construction of a variety of structures and surfaces of brick, block, stone and other related materials as assigned. Ability to evaluate work operations and review completed work inspections reports to assure that the standards are met. Ability to work in MAXIMO, VATAS (Timekeeping), VISTA system especially for issuance of work orders, PM scheduling, equipment inventory purchase cards orders. Ability to assign, assist or provide preventive maintenance (PM's) on air conditioning systems, including thermostat adjustment and and other equipment. Ability to assign or assist with the repair or removal of interior and exterior items consisting of wood, metal, plastic, fiberglass, or repair/removal of locks, cylinders, keys, doors, etc. Must have practical and extensive knowledge of various trades required to plan for and perform maintenance and construction tasks (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, locksmithing, masonry, and painting). Ability to develop training plan to cover employee orientation in shop function and work practices. Work Schedule: 07:00am - 03:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor/PD112610 Physical Requirements: The work requires a considerable amount of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions. The incumbent may work from ladders on scaffolding or mechanical lifting devices. When operating equipment, the worker may be under a great deal of strain from constant reaching, bending, turning and moving of hands, arms, feet, legs and by the vibration and jerking of the equipment. The incumbent carries, lifts and handles parts and equipment weighting up to 50 pounds and may occasionally exceed 50 pounds, Physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy and bulky materials such as sheets of plywood or other building materials .
