Duties

Receive tasks from shop leadership then develops plans and assigns tasks to sections such as Carpenters, Masonry Mechanics and Printing Plant Workers. Lead a team in completing various assignments from large to moderate scope or in small minor projects working simultaneously. Assist workers with unanticipated problems in accordance with validation from higher supervision. Keeps supervisor informed of current work status, advises on meet Makes recommendation on plan adjustments based upon, schedule, manpower and material availabilities.ng or not meeting deadlines.

Requirements

  • You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
  • Selectees must successfully Pass all Preemployment requirements before appointment.
  • Strength test may be required.
  • Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Physical - Effort: Duties are performed in a wood shop requiring extended periods of standing while operating machinery, strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required.
  • Physical - Effort: Work May Consist of heights at least 100 feet above ground and may require lifting and moving up to 40 lbs. unassisted and occasionally assisting lifting heavier devices with other workers
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed in shop areas where the incumbent is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue fumes, and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Carpenter Leader. Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element: THE ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE AS A CARPENTER LEADER, Job Element 73: to be considered for this position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. The screen-out element for this position typically involves the following duties: These duties include: 1) Using initiative and judgement to accomplish work assignments given by by foreperson or supervisors to accomplish work assignments, 2) laying out the work for a section or shop, 3) determining materials and equipment needs while planning, developing or accomplishing a wide range of work sequences, 4) guiding, supporting and providing leadership to a team of subordinates and 5) performing basic repairs to complex projects with minimal supervision. In addition to the requirements above, GPO employees competing under merit promotion procedures must meet all of the following criteria in accordance with Federal Merit Promotion Plan, GPO Instruction 615.2C (Appendix B): 1. Have completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacancy; AND 2. Have at least 1 year of journeyperson experience subsequent to completion of the above apprenticeship or training; AND 3. Have served a minimum of 1 year in Career or Career-Conditional appointment in the GPO.(add supervisory statement from MP Plan). 4. Have served at least 1 year in an administrative or supervisory capacity. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for experience.
