This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Force Readiness Command (FORCECOM), Performance Systems Division, Aviation Training Center in Mobile, AL.

Duties

The incumbent will perform duties as Technical Writer in the Training Division at the U.S. Coast Guard Aviation Training Center (ATC), Mobile, AL. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Technical Writer in support of researching, developing, and revising Coast Guard Aviation publications to include aircraft flight manuals, check lists, supplements, and operator's manuals such as performance, weight and balance, cargo loading, and sensors/C4ISR manuals.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.  Typical work assignments include:

Qualifications

Applicants must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the federal sector.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.Specialized experience includes knowledge in regulations and policies affecting Government publications, in applying principles, techniques, and practices of technical and general writing, editing, English grammar and composition, spelling and punctuation; develops written products that articulate, interpret, and explain complex operations and programs; analyzing, interpreting and integrating information in a variety of formats, such as graphs and tables, databases, and spreadsheets, and to plan and implement new formats and products suitable for new media and accessible to specialized audiences; knowledge of professional authoring and desktop publishing software tools including Microsoft Word and Adobe Framemaker.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
