Duties
Conduct audiology equipment calibration and report results
Interpret audiometric results to provide information to patients and/or healthcare providers.
Educate employees regarding hazardous noise levels and use of ear protection.
Conduct ear functions testing to identify and/or rule out hearing loss.
Perform ear protection fittings to determine proper size of earplug and attenuation factor (noise reduction rating) needed during job related exposure.
Provide clerical support, such as input and retrieval of medical data/tests, scheduling of appointments, ordering supplies, analysis of data trends, and/or planning education programs.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Will be required to obtain and maintain current CPR/First Aid certification.
- Tuberculosis testing is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Upon appointment, incumbent will be required to attend Hearing Conservation Training course at Brooks AFB, TX, offered quarterly, lasting approximately 3 days.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting audiology testing; providing patient education, and operating and maintaining audiometric equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
NOTE: Certification as a Hearing Conservationist by the Council of Accreditation of Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOCH) is highly desired. Training is offered through School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base in Texas.
