This position is located within the Nutrition and Food Service in the Central Virginia VA Healthcare System at the VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA.
Duties
There is a Driver's License Requirement (Screen Out): A current and valid state-issued driver's license is required for this position to operate the government vehicles. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. If an interview is requested, you will be required to provide a copy of your current and valid state-issued Driver's License.
The primary duties of the Motor Vehicle Operator include driving a box truck/cargo van to various buildings around the campus of the Richmond VA Medical Center making daily deliveries, 3-4 times per day, issuing food supplies, nutritional supplements and non-food supplies to support food service operations to Veterans residing in specialized programs throughout the campus. The vehicle will also be driven over public roads and highways to pick up needed supplies from vendors.
The other major duties include but are not limited to:
Operates vehicles with gross weights up to 26,000 pounds;
Operates gate lift in order to carry out duties;
Operates vehicles over federal, state and county roads and city streets in all traffic conditions;
Picks up items missing from vendor deliveries;
Loads and unloads vehicles;
Transports food service supplies, meal trays, etc.;
Maintains cleanliness and upkeep of vehicles;
Keeps records of vehicle mileage, repairs, fuel usage, etc.;
Collects and files all completed motor vehicle trip tickets;
Receives and checks in deliveries from supply warehouse, vendors, etc.;
Operates electronic jack lift to move large pallets of food and supplies to storage areas;
Processes storeroom requisitions for Veteran programs and transports supplies; and,
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: To be determined by service. This position supports an 8 hour/7 day a week operation with 2 set days off.

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The person in this position works in all weather conditions. The duties performed consists of moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing in or on vehicles; trailers, cars or vans to load, unload or tie down material and equipment; may include pushing and pulling carts, and wheelchairs, lifting equipment, supplies, etc. Must be physically sound and have good coordination of eyes, hands, feet and vision and depth perception. Must be mentally alert to traffic hazards and dangers of the highway.
The person in this position operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads (or the equivalent); exposed to the danger of serious accidents, heavy traffic and highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems. May be exposed to dirt and fumes and to the possibility of cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle. Performs other related duties as assigned, which may include snow and ice removal during extreme circumstances or emergency situations. Will also work in an office setting while maintaining vehicle log and maintenance information.
