Duties

WHAT IS THE FMSS - Facilities Management and Security Services??????? DIVISION? A description of the business units can be found at: https://www.jobs.irs.gov/about/who/business-divisions Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas: Facilities Management and Security Services Business Solutions The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. Analyzes cases of personal injury and occupational disease to determine cause. Compiles and analyzes accident and injury/illness data and prepares recommendations for corrective action, supported by charts, tables, reports for presentation to FMSS and Business Unit Leaders and management officials. Identifies injury/illness and mishap trends, risk patterns and safety program deficiencies, and proposes remedial measures with associated costs. Monitors delivery of safety related work requests and execution of standard operating procedures, guidance documents and other related materials to ensure consistency in safety program operations through out all Territory facilities and in conformance with FMSS program directives. Recommends to management the application of specific techniques, methods, and procedures to eliminate or control unsafe acts or conditions identified in surveys, job risk assessments, or through analysis of territory accident and injury data. Conducts a targeted safety education program to fulfill the employee development requirements of a diverse workforce that include hundreds of seasonal workers, equipment operators, and drivers in an office and light industrial setting, Trains and supports teams who train employees in the use of ergonomically adjustable equipment and furniture and how to inspect and resolve potential and on-going employee ergonomic problems within the designated facilities. This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-05, but if the position has career progression to GS-11, then you may move from a GS-05 to a GS-11 in as little as three years.

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement: EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-07: To be eligible for this position at this grade level you must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Managing safety or occupational health program elements. Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards. Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards. Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. Work in occupational fields such as industrial hygienist, safety engineer, fire prevention engineer, health physicist, and occupational health nurse.\ OR EDUCATION: Must have at least one (1) year of graduate level education at an accredited college or university in a field of study which includes safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) may be met by having a Bachelor's degree, with one of the following: A GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all completed undergraduate courses or those completed in the last two years of study, or a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all courses in the major field of study or those courses in the major completed in the last two years of study, or rank in the upper one third of the class in the college, university, or major subdivision, or membership in a national honor society recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. Note: Grade point averages should be rounded to one decimal point. For example, 2.95 is rounded to 3.0, and 2.94 is rounded to 2.9. If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) was taken on a pass/fail or similar basis, your claim must be based on class standing or membership in an Honor Society. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of experience and education equivalent to that described above.
