This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Sector Humboldt Bay, Command Cadre, McKinleyville, CA.
Duties
This position serves as the principal administrative assistant to the Sector Commander, Deputy Commander, and Command Master Chief (CMC). Performing a wide range of administrative functions including technical aspects of all administrative programs and activities for the office related to personnel actions, travel, property, mail, scheduling, document tracking, awards processing, tracking office deadlines and similar tasks. Receives and reviews correspondence and make revisions in format or routine content independently. Performs majority of task with little or no direct supervision.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Incumbent must be able to type 40 word per minute (wpm).
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
- This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
Qualifications
To qualify for the GS-07 level, applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience includes:
Reviewing incoming mail for distribution to immediate office member; routinely sends addressed items, and some information administrative, mail directly to individuals or units;
Producing travel orders and making transportation and lodging arrangements and reservations for staff;
Managing procurement of supplies, equipment and office resources;
Maintaining management's calendar, recording all appointments, meetings and other commitments.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to the line of work. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
