The Office of Inspector General, Pathways Internship Program is designed to attract students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions with paid opportunities to explore Federal careers while still in school. This position is located in the Investigations Division. As a student trainee, the ideal candidate for this position is majoring in criminal justice or a related field of study. The Partnership for Public Service named SBA OIG as being the #1 OIG in the Federal Government.
Duties
Supports special agents conducting investigations into alleged violations of law, policy or regulations, by reviewing and assessing complaints and allegations received by the Investigations Division to determine investigative and/or prosecutorial viability. These allegations typically include criminal acts such as bribery, false statements, conspiracy, embezzlement, and fraud.
Aids in planning, organizing, monitoring, and conducting special studies, projects, and initiatives. Provide quality administrative support to Investigations Division managers (AIGI, SAC, AD, ASAC).
Documents the SBA OIG's electronic case management system in accordance with SBA OIG policies; prepare reports of investigative interviews and activities.
Ensures work products are in alignment with SBA OIG investigative priorities and in compliance with established SBA OIG policies/procedures, CIGIE standards, and Attorney General Guidelines (e.g., ROls, MOIs, MOAs, use of investigative techniques, case management guidelines, etc.)
Examines various records and compares them with other known facts to help make recommendations or establish fact patterns, as well as performs basic and clerical assignments, such as providing database support.
Assists in the development of outreach activities with stakeholders, including government officials, lending institutions, and agency representatives to further education or law enforcement efforts.
Observes the work of higher-grade staff; and assists higher-level team-members in more complex and intricate tasks, thus providing an opportunity to perform more progressively responsible assignments as experience is gained.
Requirements

- You must be enrolled in an accredited education institution.
- You must successfully complete a background investigation. Candidates who do not respond to the background investigation request by the pre-determined due date, will be disqualified.

Qualifications
GS-1899-04: Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study OR successful completion of the requirements for an associate's degree (please verify by attaching a copy of your college transcripts).
Academic year of undergraduate education (post-high school study):
A minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours at an accredited college or university; or
A minimum of 36 weeks at an accredited business, technical, vocational, or qualifying educational institution for at least 20 classroom hours per week.
