Job opening: Lead Interstate Compact Assistant

Salary: $61 933 - 80 510 per year

The position serves as the Lead Interstate Compact Assistant, located in the Office of Community Supervision and Intervention Services within Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency for the District of Columbia (CSOSA). CSOSA provides community supervision of adult offenders released by the DC Superior Court or the United States Parole Commission on probation, parole and supervised release in the District of Columbia.

Duties

Servers as the Team Leader for Interstate Compact Assistants currently serving in CSOSA. Reviews data submitted by team members and use this information to create reports for submission to supervisor. Provides on the job training to new employees. Provides technical assistance affiliated with program assignments, such as maintaining and updating caseload information on offenders who are transferred to other jurisdictions. Performs record checks and address/location searches of offenders' localities, including, but not limited to, tracking placement in custodial facilities. Requests and reviews progress reports for offenders and notifies Community Supervisor Officers (CSO) of status changes that could include warrants served, court dates, change of address/locations, and new arrests. Reviews, routes and files incoming correspondence from interstate offices in other jurisdictions. Uses several types of software applications, such as spreadsheet, database, word processing, desktop publishing, and graphics applications, to generate specific working documents and forms.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service , if applicable.
  • Background security investigation, drug test, and favorable adjudication.
  • May be required to successfully complete a one year probationary period (unless already completed.)
  • Time-in-grade requirements must be met within 30 calendar day of the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

To be minimally qualified at the GS-08 entry grade level, applicants must minimally have: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-07 or equivalent in other pay scales) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized experience is defined as: Performing general clerical duties and activities, answering phone calls and inquiries using available forms of communication such as emails, instant messaging or chat rooms, conference audio and visuals (such as Microsoft Teams), understanding basic office protocols and procedures, creating or developing reports, and using up-to-date office technology to include all the following: Performing day-to-day clerical tasks such as maintaining information files or database and processing documents. Managing files and records for various purposes such as personnel or client case files. Entering and maintaining data within database software programs. Experience using computers and computer systems to enter data, retrieve or extract information, or process information for businesses, organizations, agencies, or higher education institutions. Conducting research with effective methodologies, which includes defining the project or question, collecting data, analyzing and evaluating information, drawing conclusions, and preparing research documentation or reports for review or presentation by executives, management, or academics. Experienced in conducting research to locate necessary information or data, utilizing resources such as the internet, accessible databases, organizational manuals, statistical reports, and various related documents to gather valid data and information for creating comprehensive research reports and findings. Demonstrating a thorough understanding of the United States criminal justice system. Maintaining and updating case file information on criminal offenders or parolees who are transferred to other jurisdictions. Preparing and maintaining case files for criminal offenders and/or parolees. Reviewing progress reports on criminal offenders or parolees for reporting purposes. Note: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-07 or higher grade in Federal Service. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education is not substitutable for specialized experience at this grade level.
