The primary purpose of this position is to provide a student trainee who has been appointed to the Headquarters Air Force Global Strike Command Internship Program with on-the-job training and guidance to further student technical development.

Duties

Perform selected tasks and phases of routine studies and projects that require application of basic occupational field theory and principles in the technical area of mathematics, computer programming, engineering science, statistics, physical science, or surveying while working under the guidance of and in close association with senior personnel. Participate with senior personnel in conducting non-routine projects. Study Air Force requirements for the projects and research and study the current body of precedents and technical knowledges. Assist senior personnel in determining the validity, feasibility, achievability, and efficiency of special studies, projects, and initiatives, and participate in planning the studies, projects, and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Must meet suitability requirements for Federal employment
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying accredited institution
  • Must sign a Participant Agreement
  • U.S. citizen or national (resident of American Samoa or Swains Island)
  • Must be eligible to work under U.S. immigration laws
  • Must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal and Regulatory Guidance
  • You must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Accepted for enrollment or enrolled in an approved program
  • Pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree, Graduate or Professional Degree
  • Enrollment must be at least half-time course load as defined by the education institution (typically six hours or equivalent for undergraduate and three hours or equivalent for graduate)
  • Meet the qualification standards of the position
  • Non-citizens may be eligible for employment if Permitted by the DoD Appropriation Act
  • Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid
  • May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties.
  • This position is established under the provisions of the HQ Air Force Global Strike Command Internship Program.

Qualifications

Education: Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree. (One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school). Knowledge of basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices in the technical area of mathematics, computer programming, engineering science, statistics, physical science, or surveying. 2. Skill in applying basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices sufficient to perform student trainee assignments. 3. Ability to follow instructions and guidance to complete assigned tasks and communicate information to others in oral or written format. 4. Ability to analyze problems, identify significant factors, gather and interpret pertinent data, and apply established rules and procedures in order to recommend effective solutions. 5. Ability to learn and apply basic investigative techniques to accomplish work in the subject-matter field. 6. Ability to gather and analyze basic facts, information, and data, and draw conclusions. PLEASE NOTE: This is not a developmental opportunity, this position will be filled at the GS-04 level. The individual selected for this position may be considered for promotion to a higher grade without further competition upon meeting all legal and regulatory/program requirements. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.
