You will serve as an ENGINEER/SCIENTIST in the Strategic and Computing Systems Department of NAVSURFWARCENDLD. You will serve as a Senior Systems Engineer (SE) for the Weapon Systems Engineering & Verification Branch (A51), within the Strike Weapons Systems Division (A50) of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, in Dahlgren, VA.

Duties

You will be responsible for ensuring that the Systems Engineering team is producing high quality products in a timely manner to meet the needs of the Tomahawk Weapon System and Future Weapon Control Systems. You will lead efforts to create and maintain interface specifications, candidate change packages, requirements, and supporting products. You will facilitate consistent delivery of the highest quality technical products and services, on schedule and within budget, via application of best project management and engineering practices across the Division. You will be required to support development of budget and schedule estimates for systems engineering efforts. You will ensure that sound engineering practices are followed in accordance with established processes and update these processes as appropriate. You will lead integration of Digital Engineering principles and establish effective Models Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles across the division. You will mentor the System Engineering team and others while staying current on the latest technology and industry trends. You will oversee engineering development of Tactical Tomahawk Weapon Control System (TTWCS) and Future Weapon Control Systems Firing Unit configurations across a multitude of baselines including both fleet released and developmental builds. You will serve as the lead Responsible Engineer, coordinating work to provide scoping and resource needs in support of version planning, supporting architecture development, and ensuring the organization retains appropriate levels of technical rigor. You will represent Dahlgren Systems Engineering to other teams both internal and external including Change Review Boards, Resource Planning Groups, Technical Exchange Meetings, Engineering Review Boards, SDA meetings, and various status meetings. You will lead system engineering efforts, including organizing and hosting internal discussions, mentoring junior team members, defining required tasking, and reviewing products. You will modernize systems engineering processes and tools to integrate with Agile development. You will coordinate with the leads and Mission Engineering team to promote a cohesive engineering environment. You will Interact with representatives and contractor organizations as well as contractors and other government organizations to coordinate action item responses, specific requests for information and the generation of point papers.

Qualifications

This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a General Engineer (0801-series), a General Physical Scientist (1301-series), an Operations Research Analyst (1515-series), a Mathematician (1520-series), or a Computer Scientist (1550-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. Education

• Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Degree: A professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college or university; OR a degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics; OR
• Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Substitution of Education/Experience: A combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
