This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Plains Area, Wind Erosion & Water Conservation Research Unit in Lubbock, TX.
In this position, you will focus on the effects of wind-induced soil erosion and interactions between plants and soil environments.
Duties
Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies samples and supporting records.
Actively participates in one or more phases of the research process by performing a variety of complex technical duties.
searches for literature pertinent to area of research for new procedures or techniques to use in the laboratory.
Uses a variety of specialized equipment to perform a full range of techniques.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience collecting, preparing, or evaluating environmental samples; maintaining scientific records; and operating or maintaining scientific and agricultural equipment.

Education: Successful completion of one full year of study leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree. Related degrees may include Agronomy, Soil science, Geosciences, Atmospheric sciences, Environmental sciences, Ecology, and Engineering.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.
GS-8
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting in one or more phases of the research process; Preparing environmental samples; and performing the full range of techniques and studies using a variety of specialized equipment in a laboratory setting.

Education: Successful completion of two full year of study leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree. Related degrees may include Agronomy, Soil science, Geosciences, Atmospheric sciences, Environmental sciences, Ecology, and Engineering.

GS-9
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-08 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience setting up a research project related to soil, sediment, or dust; interpreting and documenting experimental findings; and operating and maintaining laboratory equipment to collect and process experimental data.

Education: Successful completion of two full year of study leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree. Related degrees may include Agronomy, Soil science, Geosciences, Atmospheric sciences, Environmental sciences, Ecology, and Engineering.

A combination of education and experience as described above.
