Qualifications

In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below:
To qualify for the GS-14 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level defined as evaluating pesticide-based scientific studies and/or efficacy data; interpreting pesticide regulations, policies, and procedures; and advising on pesticide registration issues to senior management or junior staff.
Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of biological principles, theories, and practices sufficient for applying to national programs or policies.
Ability to apply regulatory rule making functions sufficient for evaluating pesticide related problems.
Skill in oral communication.
Skill in conducting pesticide program efficacy reviews.
Skill in written communication.
Ability to train team members on pesticide regulatory decision making practices.
Skill in quality control sufficient for evaluating pesticide studies.
Skill in project management.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education
You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.
BIOLOGIST: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as listed.
MICROBIOLOGIST: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences (organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent); OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as listed.
