This position is assigned to Fitness, Sports and Deployed Support Branch (N921); Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) located at NS Mayport, Florida. Incumbent serves as the lead lifeguard and is responsible for safeguarding the lives of persons at the assigned work area. Incumbent assists with Aquatic training, education and general support at the installation.
Requirements
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, without a fixed schedule. When outdoors sun and eye irritation exposure may occur.
- Irregular working hours may be required to include early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends and holidays when the need arises.
- Wearing of protective clothing and equipment may be required as situations warrant.
- May be required to lift and carry swimmers varying in weight and size.
- Must be ready to respond to emergency situations at all times.
Qualifications
Must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries and State Criminal History Repository Check (CNACI) background checks which are required for positions that involve working with children under 18 years of age upon hiring and renew every 5 years.
Required to work varied work schedules to include splits shifts, split days off nights, weekends and holidays.
May be required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license in situations where use of vehicle is required such as open waterfronts.
Six months of experience as a lifeguard is preferred.
For Pool:
- Lifeguard Training Certification in accordance with CNICINST 1710.3;
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Providers;
- First Aid to include Automated External Defibrillator Certification; and
- Blood Borne Pathogens.
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Preferred
Ability to complete an ocean run swim run event (1/4 mile run, 500-meter swim, ¼ mile run).
Ability to complete a 500-meter swim in less than 10 min in a controlled environment.
Preferred, but not required: American Red Cross Small Craft Safety Training
Education
