This position is located within the Fruit and Tree Nut Research Lab for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Byron, GA.
In this position, you will provide administrative support and assistance within the program office.
Duties
Receives, sorts, and routes incoming mail and correspondence to staff.
Establishes and maintains a variety of office records and files, and researches files and reference materials for information, as requested.
Uses office automation software packages and equipment to type correspondence, memoranda, reports, manuscripts, and other documents, ensuring accuracy.
Determines supplies needed for the office staff, prepares the necessary paperwork, and receives and distributes supplies and special order items.
Maintains office bulletin boards, ensuring material of interest and importance to employees is current and posted.
Fills in for office secretary or other clerical employees during periods of absence.
Arranges travel for staff, including scheduling transportation, making room reservations, preparing travel authorizations and itineraries, and preparing travel vouchers.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.

Qualifications

GS-05
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-05 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience handling incoming and outgoing correspondence; scheduling and coordinating travel arrangements for staff; providing administrative support to leadership; and developing a variety of documents using office automation software.
OR
Education: Successful completion of 4 full years of education above the high school level. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.
Applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
