Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team as the Supervisory Information Technology Specialist responsible for the overall direction and management of the Information Technology (IT) unit. Typical work assignments include: Supervising a team of Information Technology professionals dedicated to network, management information, telecommunication, internet, and litigation management systems and services. Directing and managing delivery of Information Technology services to include office automation software solutions, integration with other networks, telecommunications, and video teleconferencing. Developing annual, multi-year and long-range work plans and schedules. Ensuring IT systems availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency. Ensuring the confidentiality and security of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • If selected, you will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a one year supervisory or managerial probationary period unless this requirement has been met previously.

Qualifications

To be qualified at the GS-14, you must possess the basic requirement and specialized experience as follows: Basic Requirement: Information Technology (IT)-related experience, obtained through paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, demonstrating each of the following competences: Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work until provides, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and respond appropriately. Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND, Specialized Experience: At least ONE full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in Federal service, defined as experience leading and/or managing three or more of the following IT specialty areas which support the information management needs of an office: IT Systems/Network and Telecommunications Administration, Systems Security, Intranet-Internet, Customer Support, or Policy and Planning; monitoring the status of IT operating systems; evaluating quality of operations; overseeing long and short range planning of services; and performing project management, program analysis, and providing technical guidance and recommendations to senior management and technical specialists on a wide range of complex IT issues. TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Example: One year at the GS-13 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 level. You must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted; recommended SF-50s include promotions and step increases (within grade increases). All applicants will be reviewed to ensure they meet minimum qualification and eligibility requirements before carrying out the rating and ranking process.
