The primary purpose of this position is to monitor and implement established security management and personnel and reports security programs. Provide assistance to unit security manager, run reports, provide unit with POC for security in-out processing.
Duties
Resolves a wide variety of complex security clearance problems that require choosing alternative responses through coordination with unit security managers, DoD Central Adjudication Facility, Defense Security Service (DSS), Office of Personnel Management (OPM), higher headquarters, etc. Provides guidance and clarification to unit security managers on security clearance requirements.
Reviews, establishes, and maintains Security Information Files (SIFs). Receives notification of derogatory report of information from automated systems, from screening of police blotters and AF Office of Special Investigation (AFOSI) reports, locally developed information such as a court martial, or from other government agencies, etc.
Assists in the overall management of the Information Security Program. Drafts policy directives and correspondence relating to the management of all facets of classified material.
Assists in the administration of the Security Education and Training Program for information, personnel, and industrial security programs.
Performs administrative office support functions and maintains cooperative working relationships with unit security managers, supervisors, operating officials, and unit commanders.

Qualifications
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of specialized security methods, rules, regulations, principles, and procedures to resolve a wide range of problems and perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard security assignments; knowledge of regulatory provisions to correctly respond to requests for personnel security guidance or assistance, identifying the nature of the issues involved and researching guidelines to identify the policies and procedures that apply to their solutions knowledge of security procedures pertaining to handling and disposing of classified material, such as classification markings, accountability and control, declassification, and destruction procedures; knowledge of physical security programs and a general familiarity with some of the methods and techniques used in accomplishing physical security objectives. NOTE: In-service applicants can qualify with at least 1 year of specialized experience at either the next lower level (GS-06) or the second lower level (GS-05). However, for outside applicants (i.e., those without current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service), 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower level is required (GS-06). NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. Note: In-service applicants can qualify with at least 1 year of specialized experience at either the next lower level (GS-06) or the second lower level (GS-05).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of common and specialized security methods, rules, regulations, and principles to provide technical work and assist security specialists in security administration and perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard security assignments and resolve problems.
2. Knowledge of procedures, forms, and information and confidentiality requirements related to sensitive personal information to request security investigations and submit to the appropriate government agency.
3. Knowledge of what constitutes derogatory information, the supporting data required to complete adjudication determinations, and understanding of clearance adjudication processes and the information/criteria required.
4. Knowledge of one or more automated databases associated with a specific security function to recognize, locate, and insert data/information; support office and security operations; and produce a variety of documents and reports.
5. Ability to plan and organize work, follow instructions, and accomplish multiple ongoing projects; and ability to locate, assemble, and compose information for reports, inquiries, and limited technical correspondence.
6. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals, using a high degree of tact and diplomacy.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
