Duties

You will determine malfunctions with mobile equipment to make repairs or replace defective parts. You will determine suitable action when modifications are required for heavy mobile equipment readiness. You will inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy mobile equipment (e.g. cranes, floating cranes, diesel engines, etc.) to verify maintenance service needed. You will use precision measuring instruments for testing or inspecting mechanical systems. You will test functionality of heavy mobile equipment (e.g. cranes, diesel engines, etc.) after all repairs are complete. You will identify deficiencies which prevent the safe operation of heavy mobile equipment.

• This is a bargaining unit position.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
• Must obtain/maintain Class B commercial driver's license with P (Passenger), N (tank) and T (trailer) endorsements for operations of a field maintenance vehicle and for diagnosing problems, field testing, and verifying that repairs are satisfactory.
• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
• May be required to work at a job site or location other than a permanently assigned location.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision 1) Repairing, maintaining, and overhauling complex systems on a wide assortment of heavy mobile/weight handling equipment and specialized equipment and systems in accordance with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic principles; 2) Diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions in heavy mobile/weight handling equipment; and 3) Conducting functional and performance tests on completed work assignments.
