This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Position is in the Army Substance Abuse Program office. Serves as a Social Services Assistant in a clinical setting on a highly specialized multidisciplinary treatment team dealing with mental health issues, providing follow up dealing with the identified high risk population.
Duties
Coordinate, monitor, and evaluate services to meet patient’s mental health needs
Develops support caseload as directed by the clinical mental health providers.
Follows all recommended mental health administrative discharges during the treatment process.
Operates computer to input data, monitor reports, maintain connectivity with case managers.
Facilitates psycho-educational and/or support groups as needed.
Requirements
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- All employees assigned to a Medical Treatment Facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations regardless of series.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal Influenza Vaccination requirement and is, therefore, subject to annual seasonal Influenza Vaccinations.
- Pre-appointment physical and annual physical may be required.
- Must obtain and maintain a criminal background check.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in assisting evaluation of mental health patients to determine required services; facilitating outpatient psycho-educational or support groups; and maintaining patient documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
