This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Durham Veteran's Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), Engineering Department. The incumbent provides administrative support in all areas of the Durham VAMC Facilities Section. The immediate supervisor is the Service Chief of the Engineering Department.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Issues work orders to all Engineering shops based on written, verbal, telephone, and electronic work order requests. Serves as primary contact for emergency and routine repair calls for Engineering. Produces monthly reports to document utility system failures, utility system user errors equipment failures, equipment users errors, life safety work orders initiated, and life safety work orders completed. Maintains an established program of preventive maintenance (PM) on buildings, roads, building service equipment, expendable equipment, and non-expendable equipment. Codes all new equipment to be Included in the PM program. Serves as an IFCAP (Fiscal Control Point Clerk) for purchasing request. Serves as a Medical Center Key Custodial for facility. Assignments involve all areas of Engineering including plant maintenance, preventive maintenance, projects, safety, equipment repair, utilities, and biomedical equipment. Serves as a timekeeper. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/03/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of Engineering policies, memoranda, standard operating procedures, quality assurance, and requirements of Joint Commission. Working knowledge and understanding of the terminology, tools, materials, and operation used in Engineering in order to interpret manufacturing parts lists, manuals, and catalogs. Knowledge of basic financial procedures and processes and the ability to track a variety of program expenses in order to monitor and maintain fund control points for Engineering. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although physical effort may be required since this position is located within Facility Management Operations. Incumbent will occasionally handle, lift, or carry up to 50 pounds, and may have to handle, lift, or carry over 50 pounds.
