Teen Coordinator is responsible for the oversight, planning and implementation of activities for the Teen Program & including CYP Sports & Fitness programming. The purpose of the position is to plan, organize and provide a supervised social, recreational and educational program for youth ages 13-18 that meets the interests and needs of all children and youth.
Duties
The duties and responsibilities of the Teen Coordinator can be grouped into categories including programming, indoor/outdoor environment, interactions and relationships, supervision of children and youth, outreach, personnel management, and compliance. These tasks are summarized below.
Requirements
- Must satisfactorily complete all background checks for child care positions, including fingerprint checks, a Tier 1 with Child Care check, Tier 3 if applicable, and a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization, be free of all communicable diseases, and obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases.
- Ability to sustain considerable walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to complete required training certificates, and maintain certifications or credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation institutions used as part of DoD's Child and Youth Programs.
- May be required to work an uncommon tour including evening and weekend hours.
- May be required to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license, transport children, and/or attend field trips.
Qualifications
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate programs designed to meet the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs of children and youth from 13 to 18 years of age.
Knowledge of child and youth development principles, practices, and techniques.
Knowledge of a variety of teen programming activities for children and youth.
Knowledge of Federal and State laws governing the detection and prevention of child abuse and/or neglect.
Skill in program planning, organizing, and employee scheduling.
Skill working with military families and an understanding of military lifestyles is preferred.
Ability to supervise others.
Ability to lead, supervise, and interact with youth and teens.
Ability to safeguard and account for monies and equipment.
Ability to maintain records and reports.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
Works under direct supervision of the Youth Director who is available for assistance with problems of an unusual nature or issues that require major policy decisions.
Incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing a teen program based on the needs of the CYP.
Incumbent is expected to operate independently with minimum supervision.
Work is reviewed in terms of results, satisfaction and adherence to established standards and procedures.
Operational guidelines include, but are not limited to, DODINST 6060.2, 6060.3 and 6060.4; OPNAVINST 1700.9 series; Military Child Care Act (MCCA); NAVMED P-5010; Standard Operating Procedures; accreditation criteria for National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC), Council on Accreditation (COA);
BGCA and 4-H standards; and all other applicable instructions and regulations. The incumbent assists in the implementation of program policies, regulations, standards, and procedures to ensure the timely implementation of program goals and objectives.
The work includes numerous and unrelated processes and procedures concerning the wide variety of activities in teen programs for children and youth.
Teen activities may include educational activities, special events, open recreation, preteen and teen clubs, classes, trips, dances and other programs that meet the leisure and developmental needs of youth and teens (ages 13-18).
Incumbent ensures the activities planned as part of the teen program are age appropriate and provide physical, emotional, cognitive and social development that meet the interests of dependent children and youth living on and off the installation.
The work is particularly challenging due to the complex and changing interests and needs of this age group and the social, emotional, and other challenges often confronted by youth and teens.
Education

Bachelor's or higher degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, Youth Recreation, Physical Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Youth Development, or other field directly related to Pre-K or Primary Education. OR
Associate degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, Youth Recreation, Physical Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Youth Development, or other field directly related to Pre-K or Primary Education. OR
Child Development Associate (CDA) or Military School-Age (MSA) credential or equivalent and a high school diploma.
Note: If your degree has not been awarded and/or you possess certificates of completion for DoD approved competency-based training courses, and/or a valid CDA/MSA credential(s), you MUST also provide a copy of your HS Diploma or equivalent.
