The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) Directorate for Mission Integration (MI) creates a consistent and holistic view of intelligence from collection to analysis and serves as the Director of National Intelligence's (DNI) principal advisor on all aspects of intelligence. MI integrates mission capabilities, informs enterprise resource and policy decisions, and ensures the delivery of timely, objective, accurate, and relevant intelligence.

Duties

Major Duties and Responsibilities: First-line supervisor and Chief of Production and Dissemination in the NIC's Analysis and Production Staff; lead, direct, and develop a highly skilled and diverse team of editors and publication officers charged with the production, review, and publication of NIC products. Manage the production workflow and working in concert with NIC senior managers, APS staff, and NIO teams with the goal of ensuring that NIC products meet the highest standards of analytic tradecraft and quality. Work with NIC/APS's Director to develop editors and production officers. Cultivate an integrated, collaborative team dynamic that empowers and brings out the best in staff. Foster an environment that helps your officers succeed in their roles and responsibilities, stimulate them with challenging work assignments, and offer helpful career guidance, mentoring, and training opportunities. Apply knowledge of analytic tradecraft and editorial review (based on ODNI analytic tradecraft and writing standards) to lead the preparation of authoritative, all-source intelligence assessments that skillfully convey complex substantive issues in clear, digestible formats and content that address senior US policymakers, demands, including the President and senior officials at the National Security Council, the heads of IC agencies, and the Director of National Intelligence. Review NIC products for clarity, brevity, organization, logic, and grammar, and work with author to add context to articles as necessary; ensure that the articles selected are relevant and adds value for the reader. Drawing on reviewing expertise, develop analytic review and editorial guidelines for NIC authors and promulgate these guidelines through the NIC/APS SharePoint. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with leaders and peers from within ODNI and other government agencies to leverage available shared resources to enhance and extend the NIC's production capabilities. Keep abreast of and incorporate new technologies, tools, techniques, and trends in work. Proactively seek feedback from customers to improve the relevance, content quality, and timeliness of NIC products. Represent NIC/APS on relevant IC committees and working groups addressing major analytic review and production matters. Support the ODNI/Front Office (FO) and NIC/FO at the National Intelligence Board for the IC review and approval of draft National Intelligence Estimates. Represent NIC/APS at internal Peer Reviews of draft NIEs and ICAs. Support the NIC/FO when needed. Lead and direct teams in or more areas of analytic expertise* in substantive analytic and management operations; plan, coordinate, and oversee work in a manner consistent with fulfilling organizational directives and accomplishing mission goals.

Mandatory Requirements: Expert in US Intelligence Community first-line supervisory/management positions, entailing directing and developing a team of intelligence professionals in support of analytic mission and production requirements; flexibility, teamwork, and a positive outlook are essential. Expert knowledge and experience applying IC analytic and writing tradecraft standards in the drafting, review, and production of all-source, multidisciplinary, finished intelligence assessments. Superior knowledge of transnational, political, cultural, social, historical, and diplomatic issues pertaining to various countries and regions; understanding of high priority issues and items of interest to senior policy makers. Expert analytical and critical thinking skills, including superior ability to think strategically. Expert in identifying common analytic/writing issues in drafts and provide editorial solutions and feedback to the authors to achieve successful outcomes; superior communication skills for eliciting and sharing information with authors and project stakeholders. Expert in adjusting work schedule to meet occasional high production demands and/or assist with crisis tasking. Expert ability to direct taskings, assess and manage performance, collaborate on goal setting, and support personal and professional development. Superior knowledge of editorial principles and an eagle eye for detail. Desired Requirements: Twelve or more years of related work experience. Expert experience working in an intelligence production unit-e.g. at CIA/DA, NCTC/DI, or DIA-and with professional editors and publication officers who produce finished intelligence analysis. Superior knowledge of production methodology for publishing products in hardcopy and/or electronic formats; thorough knowledge of both electronic and hardcopy dissemination mechanisms. Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, international affairs, or related field. Familiarity with the US Intelligence Community, the NIC's role, and NIC intelligence products; an understanding of NIC estimative tradecraft, which combines strategic analysis, warning, risk analysis, alternative analysis, and other forward-leaning approaches using short and longer product formats.
