A successful candidate in this position will support the Pantex Field Office (PFO), Assistant Manager for Nuclear Safety and Engineering, serving as the first line supervisor managing a diverse group of subject matter experts providing oversight of the documented safety analysis, safety-related engineered systems, nuclear explosive safety, and nuclear criticality safety.

Duties

As a Supervisory General Engineer/Physical Scientist you will: Serve as a technical expert in the leadership and management, and development and implementation in all matters relating to field assessments and oversight activities for the Safety Basis and Engineering Teams. Develop strategic and operational plans to identify work to be accomplished by subordinate teams. Lead staff, manage resources and direct the work of the M&O contractor to accomplish the operations oversight mission of the office. Disseminate and exchange policy and other information directly impacting on NNSA/Departmental goals and to motivate and inform subordinate staff. Provide complex managerial, professional, and technical support to the overall mission assigned to the Pantex Field Office. Resolve problem situations and controversial and technical matters, seeks the cooperation, participation, and coordination of local officials, agency leaders and private industry representatives. Identifie financial, material, and human resource requirements and manage resources to accomplish goals and objectives, and report progress toward meeting these goals, indicating any problems, or processing roadblocks which inhibit accomplishment of mission in a safe and secure manner. Perform both technical and administrative supervision over complex work and is responsible for assigning and reviewing work, training, developing and mentoring staff; developing and accessing performance; recognizing accomplishments and counseling staff members on conduct and performance issues.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements, a qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal service, i.e., NN/NQ-03, EN-03 pay band or GS-13. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: 1) Planning, directing, coordinating, and managing federal oversight of nuclear, high-hazard, and non-nuclear operations; and 2) Providing leadership and oversight of on-site project/program management of nuclear, high-hazard, and non-nuclear operations to accomplish mission. General Engineering 801 Basic Requirements: A. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: 1. Professional registration or licensure, 2. Written Test, 3. Specified academic courses -- Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A, 4. Related curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Physical Science 1301 Basic Requirements:
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR

Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience, or additional education.
