About the Position: This is a Maintenance Mechanic, WG-4749-9, position with the Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM), Directorate of Public Works, Facility Engineer Division located in Anniston, Alabama. This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 13 month position. It is time limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.

Duties

Plans and lays out work in accordance with drawings, sketches, blueprints and own knowledge of construction or needed repairs. Paints appropriate materials to a variety of surfaces, such as interiors and exteriors of buildings, equipment and machinery including structural steel, transitory shelters, overhead cranes, fences, bridges, safety lanes on roads and parking areas. Set up, adjust, adapt and operate a variety of hand and power tools to accomplish desired work. Do spot, touch up, and rough painting. Installs structural and trim items by nailing, bolting, mortising, doweling and gluing. Planes, sands, and finishes completed work when necessary.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires satisfactory completion of a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
  • This position may require the use of a respirator and may require that the incumbent be clean shaven for mask fitting.
  • Incumbent is required to lift items up to 25 pounds.
  • Incumbent is required to occasionally lift items up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance and construction tasks. I can operate common hand tools and measuring devices of the carpentry, electrical, or plumbing trades to perform simple maintenance tasks. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Works on ladders and scaffolds and occasionally is required to work overhead or in stretched, cramped or awkward positions, and hard to reach places. Frequently lifts and carries weights up to 25 pounds and occasionally weights up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside of buildings. Incumbent is exposed to weather conditions when working outside. There is exposure to dirt, dust, spray, fumes, and grease. There is danger of cuts from hand and power tools and danger from flying splinters and chips, and exposure to noise and sawdust when operating power tools. There is possibility of cuts, bruises, broken bones and a danger of falls when working above ground level. Wears such protective equipment as goggles and respirator when sanding and using spray gun.
