The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Supervisory Supply Technician. The Supervisory Supply Technician will function under the Supply Chain Management Service.

Duties

The duties of the position may include but, are not limited to: Oversees the maintenance of stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services. Ensures the monitoring of expiration dates, rotating stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates. Oversees the performance of daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment orders. Ensures items are delivered in a timely and accurate manner and in sterile and operational condition. Ensures proper handling and safeguarding of unique supplies and special purpose items within the Laboratory, Research and Specialty Medicine and Surgical areas including patient specific items. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Serves as the rating official on evaluations, recommends awards or bonuses for personnel and changes in position classification. Assesses the training needs of various groups and individuals and develops, conducts and evaluates the effectiveness of training plans, sessions, and materials. Works with vendors, contractors, managers, supervisors and staff throughout the medical center and from other agencies on logistics issues. Maintains effective interpersonal relationships with peers, subordinates, inter-service staff and others by dealing with operational priorities of the service and other areas affected by Logistics. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/13/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: planning and coordinating work to be accomplished by other staff; establishing priorities for a department; overseeing the receipt and distribution of supplies and materials for a complex medical center; maintaining stock at inventory locations; monitors expiration dates; ensure supplies are delivered timely; training new employees and answering questions on local processes and procedures; ensuring proper storage of supplies and materials; resolving problems and providing guidance to others on logistics activities; and making recommendations on improvement of wok production and quality of work. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Education: There is no education substitute at this grade level. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Manages Human ResourcesReasoningTechnical CompetenceTechnology Application Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds) Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds) With proper assistance moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.
