The following are the duties of this position at the full working level.
Analyzes and resolves processing problems such as missing information, improperly submitted filings, and makes adjustments to the filer's account. Assesses penalties within established limits based on standard violations such as habitual errors, late filings, or non-response.
Conducts research in Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS) and Currency and Banking Retrieval System (CBRS), assembles case files, researches issues, determines and levies penalties and responds to various inquiries from Revenue Agents, penalized taxpayers, Taxpayer Advocate Staff, other IRS employees, taxpayer attorneys, and other taxpayer representatives concerning IRS/FinCEN Form 8300.
Inputs penalties into IDRS and processes IDRS account changes as necessary. Issues determination letters to sustain or waive the proposed penalty and transmits penalty letters for mailing. Provide filers or their representatives appropriate information concerning appeal rights and procedures. Perfects filed documents and makes corrections in the CBRS data base.
Qualifications
Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To qualify for this position, you must meet the qualification requirements outlined below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION FOR GS-05: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is in or related to this position and provided you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying experience include experience performing a variety of miscellaneous tasks involving researching and processing financial documents, reviewing information, and determining corrective action on accounts, researching for missing/unclear accounting information, and reviewing financial documents submitted for completeness.
OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university.
OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
AND
TIME AFTER COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT: By the closing date (or if this is an open continuous announcement, by the cut-off date) specified in this job announcement, current civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since their latest non-temporary appointment from a competitive referral certificate, known as time after competitive appointment.
