This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard, Eighth Coast Guard District, Marine Safety Unit Morgan City, in Morgan City, LA. 

Duties

This position serves as the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) Director and is a key member of the Vessel Traffic Center (VTC) management team in planning, developing and implementing vessel traffic management activities.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.  Typical work assignments include:

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • This position requires a Secret clearance.
  • A final offer of employment is contingent upon a negative drug test result.
  • A one-year Supervisory probationary period may be required.
  • The position requires a pre-employment physical.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-13:  Applicants must have at least one full year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level if in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Examples of specialized experience include: demonstrating leadership and management when providing macro-level direction to a large and diverse work group; evaluating work performance and recommending personnel actions for subordinates. Examples of professional maritime experience include: operation under USCG Mariner's license; application of Federal, State, and municipal regulations governing the use of maritime vessels; training, coordinating and evaluating the performance of operations centers; advanced computer and communications technology experience. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
