Duties

Processes flight plans, conducting necessary research and/or queries in the coordination of scheduled flights. Provides detailed assistance to military pilots and pilots of private, foreign, and contract aircraft in planning route of flight, preparation of flight plans/flight computations, and obtaining a clearance to fly in controlled airspace. Performs daily airfield inspections/checks for conditions, physical security, and force protection to ensure a safe airfield environment. Assists the Airfield Manager, Airfield Operations Manager or designated representative in the research and evaluation of airfield data. Participates in the scheduling of airfield activities with tenant and transient aviation units requiring use of the airfield.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state drivers license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Flight-line Drivers License per AR 95-2.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Flight-line Drivers License per AR 95-2.
  • This position requires irregular hours of work, and rotating shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays. Subject to changes in shift assignments following regulated notice periods. Shifts include 0800 - 1600 and 1600 - 2400.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment and periodic medical examinations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience planning the route of flights; logging and filing flight plans; obtaining requests for clearances for controlled airspace; monitoring flight plan data and air traffic control messages; and providing advisory services to pilots of aircrafts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, nautical science, marine affairs, marine engineering, marine transportation, or other fields related to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementOral CommunicationTechnical CompetenceTechnical Documentation Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
