This position is located in Saguaro National Park, in the Interpretation Division.

Duties

This is a career-seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee is guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Saguaro National Park is the End of June to the Beginning of June for approximately two consecutive weeks but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. Major Duties: Responsible for leading others, distributing workload assignments based on guidance provided by the supervisor, and established workflow policies. Monitors status and progress of employee work and adjusts workload assignments based on daily requirements. Provides on the job training instruction to new employees and provides job related answers to questions that might arise. Incumbent consults with the supervisor when policy related questions arise for final decision authority. Monitors working conditions such as ergonomics, ventilation, lighting, safety, etc. Prepares and presents a variety of formal and informal interpretive programs including guided tours through developed areas of the park as well as tours into undeveloped, limited access areas. Presents various interpretive programs to large and varied audiences, including international visitors, and school groups. AREA / HOUSING INFORMATION: Saguaro National Park consists of two districts which are separated by the city of Tucson, Arizona, a metropolitan area of over 900,000. The park has 91,446 acres, of which 78% is designated Wilderness, yet it is directly influenced by the surrounding growth and development of Tucson. The impacts of large numbers of residents immediately adjacent to the boundary of the park, when combined with the workload generated by over 700,000 visitors per year, places major emphasis upon the effective execution of visitor services and resources protection operations as well as their coordination in an interagency/interjurisdictional environment. Additional Requirements: Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-05/09/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: oral presentation of historical, scientific, or program information to groups; or developing and/or revising technical, historical, or scientific information for oral presentation to groups. Lead a team of diverse volunteers and interns to accomplish agency objectives. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to, Park Guide or tour leader; naturalist; environmental educator or teacher; or other similar work Generally technical work below the GS-5 level is not creditable. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
