Duties

You will serve as an INSULATOR in the LAGGING/PIPE COVER SHOP 57A, HULL DIVISION (TRF-310), REPAIR DEPARTMENT (TRF-300), TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY (TRIREFFAC), in KINGS BAY, GA. You will plan and lay out insulating work. You will remove insulation including asbestos and fiberglass-MMVF (man-made vitreous fibers) from submarines and surface aircraft. You will fabricate and install insulating materials to the surface of pipes, ducts, valves, fittings, flanges, boilers, tanks, turbines, distilling plants, refrigerator units, and similar components on submarines and surface craft. You will perform related duties including quality control coordination tasks required to ensure the quality of products/services resulting in work performed.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift .
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO WORK WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION such as: Experience measuring the dimensions of pipes, ducts, and other objects and cutting, forming, and installing insulating materials on items with flat, square, or cylindrical surfaces and regular curves. Experience filling cracks and smoothing rough spots with cement and trowel, and applying fiberglass cloth or other fabric to cover the insulation, using cement, needle and twine or wire to complete installation. Experience applying a working knowledge of the general purposes and properties of insulating plastics, fiberglass, and other materials including the related handling techniques and the tools required to install them. Experience applying a knowledge of arithmetic to perform surface measurements with such devices as rulers and calipers, and using good hand and eye coordination to perform such processes as cutting, cementing, lacing, sewing, and trowel application.
