Duties
You will check credentials of personnel or vehicles to control access to base posts, buildings, private property, or restricted areas.
You will operate hand-held two-way communications devices and electronic scanners while completing security work assignments.
You will access a personal identification system to issue vehicle passes and identification badges.
You will interview persons to obtain or verify information related to suspicious persons or activity.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Required to wear a uniform and comply with grooming standards in accordance with Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) directives.
- Required to receive training on the use of oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray (pepper spray) in a controlled training environment, to include the experience of receiving the spray to the facial area.
- Successfully complete/pass required CNIC directed Navy Security Forces Training Course, as well as reoccurring training requirements.
Qualifications
GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Screening and/or inspecting personal and commercial vehicles requesting installation access using detection devices; 2) Controlling personnel access by verifying identification/credentials; 3) Preparing reports of security incidents; and 4) Applying knowledge of current regulations and procedures to enforce compliance of all vehicles and persons entering naval installations to include contacting Security Forces when necessary. GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling personnel access by verifying identification; 2) Enforcing security measures required to protect personnel, materials, and property and advising supervisor on crime prevention matters; 3) Assigning work shifts to subordinate employees; 4) Reviewing subordinate employees' work progress, ensuring objectives are met; and 5) Providing on-the-job training to new employees.
