The incumbent serves as an Aviation Safety Coordinator within Aircraft Certification Services. Leads broad global outreaches within AVS and to industry and foreign regulatory authorities to promote safety and common safety processes. Responsible for coordinating responses within the division on high profile or significant safety issues and coordinating the division's activities for accident and major incident investigations.

Duties

The incumbent is a recognized expert for assigned product types within the FAA. Applies technical expertise of specific product types and knowledge of FAA aviation safety regulations, policies and objectives to identify, define and organize work for multiple work activities. Applies knowledge of Title 14, Code of Federal Regulations and related policy as it applies to certification, production, and continued operational safety of aeronautical products. Applies experience and comprehensive technical knowledge of failure investigation processes and of safety risk analysis techniques to perform multiple and varying complex work assignments under minimal direction. The incumbent interjects on behalf of management, as needed, to ensure timely and justifiable actions on potentially significant risks and escalates issues accordingly.

Qualifications

For the FV-J level: You must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower level (FV-I/GS-13). This experience is typically related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.Specialized experience includes:Experience managing Type Certification activities per procedures identified in FAA Order 8110.4. Knowledge of certification methods and application of FAA policy with significant expertise resolving technical challenges for a broad spectrum of civil aircraft types and projects;Experience applying Organizational Designation Authorization (ODA) policy within an ODA organization as outlined in FAA Order 8100.15. Experience in directing, or managing work of ODA Unit Members, in support of ODA managed projects;Experience developing people and establishing processes that lead to successful certification project outcomes;Experience supporting all phases of the aircraft design life-cycle from conceptualization to requirements definition, project planning, design, build, entry into service, continued operational safety and retirement.You should include relevant examples of the specialized experience in your work history.
